SDAART's first annual 10-minute new play showcase

Inner Views: Asian American Voices

WHAT: Inner Views is intended to explore Asian American identities and experiences. Playwrights from all over the country submitted new plays, 5-15 minutes in length that explore perspectives of Asian Americans (Pacific Rim or Indian Subcontinental cultures). The ten selected plays will be directed by five local directors and performed May 14-21, 2010 at Mesa College's Apolliad Theatre.

WHEN: Opens: Friday, May 14, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.

Closes: Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.

Run: May 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 at 8:00 p.m. and May 16 at 2:00 p.m.

WHO: SDAART is a professional non-profit performing arts organization which has produced during 15 years 35 plays including five world premieres. The La Jolla Playhouse recently named SDAART as their resident theatre company for the 2010/11 season, during which SDAART will produce Julia Cho's BFE as well as the second annual Inner Views 10-minute new play showcase.

Inner Views: Asian American Voices is intended to explore Asian American identities and experiences. Playwrights from all over the country submitted new, original plays, 5-15 minutes in length that explore perspectives of Asian Americans (Pacific Rim or Indian Subcontinental cultures). The ten selected plays will be produced by SDAART May 14-21, 2010 at Mesa College with local directors, actors, designers, and dramaturgs.

Production Dates: 5/14, 5/15, 5/20, 5/21, and 5/22 at 8pm, 5/16 at 2 pm

Auditions:

Monday April 5, 6:00 pm-9:00 pm Apolliad Theatre, Mesa College
Thursday April 8, 6:00 pm-9:00 pm Room C 101, Mesa College


There are multiple roles, all ages and ethnicities.

No need to prepare anything for the audition, but you are free to use a prepared piece if you wish.

Hip-Hop Kim-Bop: A Korean Herstory in the City of Angels

San Diego Asian American Repertory Theatre enters its 15th season by announcing the upcoming production of Hip-Hop Kim-Bop: A Korean Herstory in the City of Angels, a new play by Elise Kim Prosser, Ph.D. Hip-Hop Kim-Bop is a contemporary comedy in which four women all named Kim meet at jury duty. Through coincidence, calamity, and kim-chee, the four become friends and discover their cultural and personal identities.

The play runs January 15 - 31. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday performances at 2:00 p.m. at SDSU’s Don Powell Theatre, 5500 Campanile Drive San Diego 92182.

General Admission - $25
